Located along the shore of Lake Huron, on the Northern Saugeen Peninsula, the design of this home is a result of its unique context, with a particular focus on views of the lake and flexibility of use. The house was sited to retain as many mature trees as possible, while taking advantage of existing breaks in the forest to locate outdoor sitting areas and windows.
In the early stages of design, Andrew camped on the property absorbing the site’s unique qualities and gaining an intimate understanding of it’s forest, shoreline and waters. This modest building has 4 bedrooms over 1.5 storeys. The social areas on the ground floor feature sloped ceilings and are punctuated by a south facing clerestory window inviting varying light conditions into the kitchen and living room throughout the day. This is a high efficiency home featuring in-floor radiant heating, increased wall insulation and triple glazed windows. In addition to energy performance this home is incredibly quiet.
